Autonomous ships for coastal and short-sea shipping

Abstract: 

In this paper we investigate how autonomous technology can improve the competitiveness of short sea shipping. A methodology is developed to compare cost and performance of autonomous vessels with conventional vessels and road transport. Various degrees of autonomy are introduced and analysed.
